Austrian Bass Martin Summer completed successfully double-bass studies with
Professor Francisco Obieta at the Vorarlberger Landeskonservatorium and a course in choral conducting and church music. As of 2012 he studied singing at the Kunstuniversität Graz with Professor Claudia Rüggeberg and completed his studies in 2018 with a master degree.

From February 2016 until the end of June 2017 the artist was a member of the Accademia Teatro alla Scala in Milan and performed there, among others, 'Sarastro' /"The Magic Flute"
(Ádám Fischer; Peter Stein) and 'Frate' in a new production of "Don Carlo" (Myung-Whun Chung; Peter Stein). In addition, he was heard as a soloist in Mozart’s "Requiem" under the baton of Zubin Mehta at the Cathedral of Torton.

As of 2017 Martin Summer was a principal of the Opera St. Gallen where he sang e.g. 'Colline' /"La Bohème", 'Rocco' and 'Don Fernando' /"Fidelio", 'Goffredo' /"Il Pirata", 'Ferrando' /"Il Trovatore", 'Seneca' /"L’incoronazione di Poppea".
Guest engagements in 2017 led the young artist as 'Bartolo' and 'Antonio' in a student-production of "Le nozze di Figaro" to the Bregenz Festival, as 'Frère Laurence' in a semi-staged performance of "Roméo et Juliette" with the Bavarian Rundfunk Orchestra (Kerri-Lynn Wilson) to Ingolstadt, as 'Zuniga'/"Carmen" to the Stadttheater Klagenfurt, and with a children’s opera of Elisabeth Naske to the Opera Graz.

He sang concerts at the Styriarte Festival in Graz, at the Brucknerfest in Linz as well as at the Schubertiade in Hohenems. He performs oratorios in Austria, Switzerland, Germany as well as in Italy. He studied Lied with Joseph Breinl and attended masterclasses with Robert Holl, Kurt Widmer, Christa Ludwig, Brigitte Fassbänder, Renato Bruson, Luciana Serra, Luciana d’Intino, Julius Drake, Wolfram Rieger and Rudolf Jansen. Together with his pianist Tobias Neubauer Martin Summer regularly sings Lied-recitals and in 2015 they have reached the finals of the International Kammermusik Competition 'Schubert und die Musik der Moderne' in Graz. At the international 'Paula-Salomon-Lindberg-Liedwettbewerb' in October 2015 they both were awarded with special prizes. In 2016 Martin Summer received a scholarship of the 'Armin Weltner'-Stiftung.

Since 2019/20 the artist is a principal of the Hamburgische Staatsoper with roles like
'High priest' /"Nabucco", 'Titurel' /"Parsifal", 'Monterone' /"Rigoletto", 'Zuniga' /"Carmen", 'Sarastro' /"The Magic Flute", 'Eremit' /"Der Freischütz" as well as 'Mephisto' in a highly acclaimed world-premiere of "IchundIch" (Johannes Harneit).

Future projects include a concert of Mozart’s "Mass in C minor" in Florence (Ádám Fischer), a concert at the Festival Gstaad, 'Osmin' /"The abduction of the Serail" in a tour with the Concerto Stella Matutina as well as various Lied-recitals in Vorarlberg/Austria.
